Pulsed light for dry eye – L. Buratto

Pulsed light is a dry eye syndrome treatment which stimulates meibomian glands to product more secretion in order to enlarge the natural lipid flow (which reduces tears evaporation).
Patient is laying supine with protective glasses on his eyes; then the technician selects on the machine screen the level of glands disfunction (previously obtained by meibomiography) and the patient skin pigmentation, in order to estabilish the power of the light stimulus.
In the first part of the treatment (OPE phase), there is the emission of high power light stimulus that stimulates indirectly meibomian glands; the operator shoots 5 stimulus per eye.
In the second part there is the light modulation phase that treats meibomian glands directly, applying a mask on patient’s face for 15 minutes.
The protocol provides for 3 sessions, with an interval of 15 days between one session and the next one.
