Lipiflow is an ophthalmic device used to treat meibomian glands disfunction, also known as evaporating dry eye.
Performed in topical anesthesia, the treatment consists in a combo application of heat and pressure on eyelids.
Operator puts a single-use activator (made of polycarbonate and soft silicone) in the inner surface of the eyelids near meibomian glands; the activator releases an intermittent pressure on the external surface of eyelids at a temperature useful to melt and release the lipid part of the tear.
Every treatment lasts 12 minutes and usually one treatment is enough to alleviate dry eye symptoms.
